It's a bit hard to diagnose your problem with such limited information. However, i think it's possible that your system is clogged with registry errors as sometimes this can be a cause for the problem you're having. There's a number of registry cleaning software available, some are free and some paid.
One paid program by the name of 'Registry Mechanic' is pretty good as i have used it in the past. The only free one i can think of that's actually any good is in fact part of a set of tools available in one program called 'CCleaner'.
